Creating Healthy Attitudes and
Relationships to Motivate Success
The counterpart to RealMen®, CHARMS® is a 16-week mental health, life-skills group process for adolescent females. According to research, emotional disturbances and delinquent behavior in young females have a strong tie to the social bonds they form. CHARMS® addresses core issues of:
· Attachment-which refers to one’s connection (mostly of an emotional kind) to groups, family, peers, and school
· Commitment-which is the “investment” one makes in conventional society
· Involvement-seen as one’s participation in traditional activities, such as going to school, working, and participating in sports
· Belief-which refers to an acceptance of basic moral values and laws
Psychological research continues to confirm that although there are similarities in both genders, young woman present with issues and needs unique to their own emotional development. CHARMS® recognizes these specific developmental issues, and incorporates skills-training methods designed to meet young girls’ specific needs, value the female perspective, honor their individual experiences, and celebrate the contributions of women in our society.
